Each book club is made up of 4 parts that are designed to be a month-long nature study.

Let's look at what makes up every online book club:

Rabbit Trails

In our book clubs, we go on rabbit trails of discovery. We hop off the traditional roads of literature studies and meander down paths about science, culture, history, biographies, poetry, music, and more.

We take deep dives into some of the subjects touched on in the book and broaden our minds with new adventures — all while building better reading comprehension.

Magic Dust

In every book club, we bring literature to life by sprinkling a bit of magic dust along the way.

These hands-on projects will take us into the book through science, art, games, and more. Students make connections to the literature by touching, seeing, feeling, and becoming a part of the book through the activities.

Language Arts

Just because we're having fun doesn't mean we leave out the grammar, vocabulary, and writing.

In all of our online book clubs, we include spelling, vocabulary, copywork, dictation, and grammar concepts.

We also discuss literary elements found in the book and use our new knowledge for a writing project at the end of the book club.

It's like sneaking the vegetables in the mac and cheese!

Party School!

The pinnacle of the Online Book Club experience is the Party School!

At the end of each literature study, we celebrate the book with a party. Invite friends or family over for food and fun! All the ideas for food, decorations, and activities are included.

Dachelle McVey, creator and owner

Hi, I'm Dachelle. I am the owner of Literary Adventures for Kids, and I want to help you teach language arts in a way that is easy for you and fun for your kids.

I'm a former traditional teacher turned homeschool mom. I have a passion for literature and for adding adventure to our homeschool. I have started several book clubs in our community with the idea that each book club should be a celebration of literature.

At Literary Adventures for Kids, I take those experiences and use them to create online book clubs that add that little bit of magic to your children's education.

Commonly Asked Questions

What ages of children is the book club series for?

There are book clubs in this series that appeal to early elementary, upper elementary, middle school, and high school students.

What supplies will we need?

You will need the books listed in the Book List section of the course. You may also want a notebook for notes and vocabulary. The project supply lists are provided at the beginning of each course. You may choose which projects you will want to do.

When does the course start and finish?

This is a self-paced course. There are no starting or ending dates. Feel free to use at your leisure.

How long should this series take my child?

The book clubs are set up on a lesson-by-lesson basis. It can take as much or as little time as you and your child feel you want to spend. That said, the original design of each book club is for a month of literature study. However, I recommend you choose which projects will be a good fit for your child and not feel obligated to complete all lessons.

What if I am unhappy with the course?

We understand that not every book or course is the perfect fit. Due to the digital nature of this product, we are limited in how long we can offer a refund. If you don't find that the course fits your family, please let us know within 5 days of purchase for a full refund. After that time, we will not be able to offer a full refund.

Will the teacher provide any feedback to the child on their writing projects?

We provide students with the opportunity to share their Writing Projects with us. If they choose to share, we will provide feedback in the form of critiques and encouragement. Some of our students use this option frequently, while others choose to submit their assignments to their parents.

Can my child work through this independently?

Yes, this course is designed for older children to complete mostly independently. (Younger children may need some help.) However, parents should be available to help with projects. I recommend parents review the course before their children begin.

Can this be used for more than one child or as a family book club?

Absolutely! We are a homeschooling family, and we encourage all our children to participate in book clubs. Often we will read the book together as a family read-aloud and then work through the rabbit trails and magic dust together.
