During the Week of the Open House, you can expect the following:
- Monday, August 3: We’ll start this month's book clubs:
- Draw Me A Star Online Book Club ~ Banned Books Series for Elementary
- A Wrinkle in Time Online Book Club ~ Banned Books Series for Middle School
- Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Online Book Club for Teens ~ Banned Books Series
- I'll give you a quick weekly lesson plan, and you can access the first week of the courses for free during this time. (Details will be in the community.)
- Monday, August 3, 9-5 CDT: We will have Live Teacher Office Hours all day. You can drop in and ask any questions about the courses, the curriculum, or language arts in general. I'm here to help you find solutions today. (Details will be in the community.)
- Tuesday, August 4, 12 CDT: Join our live workshop for parents, Why My Kids Read Banned Books And So Should Yours. Every year, more books get pulled from shelves for being "too much." So why do I hand them straight to my kids? Come find out why reading the hard stuff, together, might be one of the best things you do for your child's growing mind. This isn't about telling you what to read. It's about giving your kids the tools to think for themselves, no matter what they pick up. (Details will be in the community.)
- Wednesday, August 5, 12 CDT: We’ll have our Live Poetry Teatime featuring the poetry of Amanda Gorman! Your kids can bring their favorite snacks, a poem by Amanda Gorman, and tea. We'll learn poetry in the first lesson of our Poetry Teatime ~ Banned Poets Edition, which will be free all week. (Details will be in the community.)
- Thursday, August 6, 12 CDT: We'll have a mini book club for our elementary kiddos on our newest course, Ned The Internet Troll Online Book Club (Details will be in the community.)
- Check in the community often for Zoom links, course links, calendar invites, and other details.
- Check your email. We'll send reminders.
